Parking in Arts District adjusted for arrival of Alley Theatre

By Richard Zagrzecki

As the University of Houston prepares to welcome the Alley Theatre to campus, be aware that parking in the Arts District is being impacted.

Through an exciting partnership with the University, the Alley will perform its entire 2014-2015 season at UH’s Wortham Theatre while its downtown venue is being renovated. They will remain on campus through the summer of 2015.

Faculty, staff and students will notice the changes taking place in parking lots 16B, 16C and 16F.

About 215 spaces in the center of lot 16B have been converted from student parking to metered parking spaces during the day. After 4 p.m., it will be used by the Alley Theatre and UH Arts for their patrons. Lot 16C will remain faculty/staff parking during the day, but after 5 p.m., it is being turned over to the Alley Theatre and UH Arts.

Lot 16F has been converted from visitor parking into a gated lot and will be used for Alley Theatre staff parking. The far southeast corner of lot 16B, which used to be visitor spaces, has now been designated as student parking.

A security kiosk has been installed in the parking lot, and a new entrance off of Elgin has been created to make it easier for traffic to get in and out. New wayfinding signs have been installed on Cullen and Elgin to make it easier for outside guests to find these parking areas.

Anyone who has questions about the parking changes may call Parking and Transportation Services at 832-842-1097 or email parking@uh.edu.
