Dining Services Fast Facts

UH Dining operates 26 total food service locations. This includes 16 full-service restaurant locations, 8 autonomous markets and Farmer’s Fridge locations, and 2 dining commons, one of which is 24x7. 

Did you know that UH Dining operates the only 24x7 collegiate dining program in Texas?

Check out the following facts below for UH Dining. 

 

On Saturdays, 50% of UH’s total food service locations are open and available for service, including Cougar Woods, which is open 24x7. On Sundays, both Moody Dining Commons and Cougar Woods are open for service, along with 10 other locations, such as retail at Student Center South and Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.  

UH Dining Services is the only dining operation in the Big 12 with a 24x7 dining commons. 

UH’s Dining Commons are open for 245 service days during the fall/spring academic year, and are open during the Thanksgiving Holiday, Winter Break, and Spring Break. The median meal plan service days in the Big 12 is 232, which means that UH students have more opportunities to use their unlimited meal plans and more hours of residential service than most students at other Big 12 institutions.

The decision to move 24x7 dining to Cougar Woods was made in consultation with on-campus facilities, colleagues in Student Housing and Residential Life, UH Dining Services, and the campus Food Service Advisory Committee. Moody is a 53-year-old facility and while this facility has served the campus well for many years, it is no longer to keep up with the demand for 24x7 service. Cougar Woods will serve as the 24x7 dining location for three academic years until the new dining commons adjacent to Cougar Villages is built. This new, $64 million facility, when it opens adjacent to Cougar Villages, will be the future home for 24x7 dining. During this three-year period, Auxiliary Services and UH Dining welcome feedback about how we can continue to enhance the service to best support residents. 

UH Dining strives to provide a focus on cleanliness and sanitation. As part of UH’s policies to operate on campus, all UH managers and supervisors are required to have a valid Food Manager’s Certificate that is accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Additionally, UH Dining Services locations are regularly inspected by the UH Food Safety Department. The results of these inspections are posted on the Food Safety website

Community members are able to report issues or concerns about on-campus food locations to the Food Safety Department via their web reporting form
