Community Relations Framework

The University of Houston is committed to engaging with communities through meaningful partnerships to foster mutually enriching exchanges of knowledge and resources. We aim to cultivate relationships grounded in reciprocity, spanning local, regional, national, and global contexts. In collaboration with our community engagement partners, we build strength through mutually beneficial relationships that contribute to the public good, build knowledge, and effect change.

Carnegie

Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

The University of Houston’s Carnegie Community Engagement Classification is a prestigious national recognition that places UH among an group of institutions recognized for exemplary community engagement. This designation reflects years of intentional, documented partnerships supported by the Office of Government and Community Relations, highlighting UH’s leadership in fostering sustained, reciprocal collaborations that integrate community engagement into teaching, research and service across Greater Houston.

Community Relations, operating under the UH System Office of Government and Community Relations, fosters community engagement and outreach by facilitating meaningful collaboration between our campus community and community stakeholders, civic groups, and nonprofit organizations.

    The Center for Student Involvement creates an inclusive and accessible environment that provides meaningful and diverse learning and involvement opportunities to impact student success.

    OFFICE OF THE PROVOST

    The University of Houston’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost leads efforts in advancing student success and faculty excellence throughout the institution. Working with deans and faculty, UH’s Provost oversees a range of initiatives that impact students at all stages of their academic careers. Likewise, UH’s Chief Academic Officer also supports the professional growth of professors and oversees academic programming at the University. Ultimately, the work performed within the Office of the Provost is aimed at elevating both the University and the community it serves.

    OFFICE OF NEIGHBORHOOD AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVES

    The Office of Neighborhood and Strategic Initiatives provides executive leadership to support programs like the Third Ward Initiative in the Houston community. By collaborating with community leaders, nonprofits, and institutions, the office fosters strong partnerships within Houston’s Third Ward.

    The Center for Student Advocacy and Community (CSAC) is here to help students meet their essential needs, supporting them in achieving their academic & personal goals. Our office is a welcoming space where students can relax and connect; a resource hub designed with Coogs in mind.
