IssueUIT Alert - UPDATE: Global Technology Outage Due to CrowdStrike Update
July 22, 2024 , 1:00 PM
UH fared well after being impacted by the global IT outage that took place late last week. Critical systems were restored early Friday, and the majority of the affected Microsoft Windows desktops were restored before the start of business on Monday morning. Please reach out to your departmental technical support staff or the IT Support Center  (713-743-1411) if you are still having problems.

Scammers are trying to take advantage of this outage. It is important to remember that CrowdStrike is a business application that is managed by UH, not by individual users. CrowdStrike or Microsoft will never reach out to individual users. Pop-up windows or warnings referencing CrowdStrike are scams. If your computer is running, it is not affected. Please remain vigilant in light of this situation and closely review any messages you may be getting regarding CrowdStrike or any messages relating to the outage.

If you are unsure whether a message is legitimate or not, contact UHS Information Security at security@uh.edu.

The UH System was impacted by the global IT outage that took place overnight. This outage has affected some windows servers and desktop systems at UH component universities. UIT staff have been working on this issue throughout the night. UHS critical core services, such as PeopleSoft and AccessUH,  and all General-Purpose classroom computers at UH are up and running. However, users may experience some performance issues throughout the day as this outage is resolved.

Steps to resolve the problem have been published and shared with technical support at the UHS universities. If you are experiencing issues with your desktop computer, please contact your IT support or the IT Support Center for assistance.
