Minors in Possession (MIP)

The Alcohol Education Program for Minors (MIP) is a six-hour course (two sessions of three hours). Texas state law requires that minors who have been convicted of alcohol-related offenses complete this course, which is certified by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

By taking MIP, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize their drinking patterns that could lead to alcohol-related incidences.
  • Identify a self-protected behavior to incorporate into their lives to reduce alcohol consumption.
  • Identify relevant laws relating to purchase, possession, or consumption (during social gatherings or operating a motor vehicle) of alcohol by minors.

Registration Information

  • Participants must register at least two days prior to the first day of the course.
  • Ensure you have the following information for registration:
    • Drivers' license number
    • Judge's name
    • University representative, if applicable
    • Approval from parent or guardian if younger than sixteen years of age
  • Pay a non-refundable fee of $40 by check or money order only. No other forms of payment are accepted.

To successfully complete the course, participants must:

  • Pass a short test covering course materials.
    • Information is kept confidential with the exception of reporting some data to TDLR.
  • Complete an individual exit interview within a week of the second class day.
    • Most interviews are held after class on the second day, therefore, you should be prepared to stay after class or to schedule another date with your instructor.
