Houston-
The University of Houston will join governmental agencies and non-profit organizations across the globe commemorating World AIDS Day on Friday, Nov. 30.

In 2007, 33.2 million people were estimated to be living with HIV, 2.5 million people became newly infected and 2.1 million people died of AIDS.

The slogan of the World AIDS Campaign remains “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise,” and will emphasize the theme of leadership. UH hopes to help achieve that goal by sponsoring activities such as the display of the UH AIDS quilt, a candlelight vigil and a health awareness fair on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

The Health Center will offer free, confidential and anonymous HIV testing to faculty, staff and students from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 30. No appointment is required.
