UH to Serve as POD Center

The University of Houston will serve as a Point of Distribution (POD) center Thursday through Saturday, providing water, ice and packaged meals to the public.

Volunteers from our campus community - especially students - are needed to help staff this Hurricane Ike relief effort. The POD will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. but organizers hope a substantial number of volunteers will arrive between 7 and 7:30 a.m. for initial preparations. Volunteers are needed throughout the day and you can work for whatever period of time you choose. And, of course, you are encouraged to wear your Cougar Red apparel.

Houston Rockets players and staff will join the Hurricane Ike relief effort by distributing food and toiletry items at the University of Houston's POD site on Thursday.

Team owner Leslie Alexander and the Rockets organization, working with Feed the Children, have purchased four semi trucks loaded with pre-packaged, non-perishable food and essential toiletry supplies that will be distributed to area residents.

Distribution by various Rockets players, CEO Tad Brown and members of the Rockets staff will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until all supplies are handed out.

The UH POD facility will be set up in Parking Lot 12B, between Robertson Stadium and Scott St. Volunteers are asked to check-in at the "Tailgate Area" when they arrive. See map for directions.

Those who usually park in the 12B area are asked to use alternative lots around the campus. See: http://www.uh.edu/cgi-bin/campusmap.
