Dean's Marathon Reading

Willa Cather's A Lost Lady

Each semester, Honors College Dean invites students, faculty, and staff to join him for an all-night marathon reading. This semester the group will tackle Willa Cather's A Lost Lady starting at 5 pm on Friday, September 7, 2012. Join us in the Honors College Commons to "read, eat, and strut your stuff." Costumes are highly encouraged. RSVP to Mallory Chesser at mlchesser@uh.edu.

Willa Cather was known not only for her eccentric hats and jewels, but also for dressing like a man and calling herself William. So bring your book, dress like Willa, and enjoy an evening with your Honors friendds and friends of friends. We will be gathering at 5 pm, with drinks and snacks throughout, a break for dinner, and a costume contest (with prizes!). So come for a little or come for a while; this is a sweet and savory evening not to be missed.

Past Events

The Honors College got back into the swing of things with an all-night read-aloud of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby. The 7-hour Gatsby affair, hosted by Honors Dean Bill Monroe, was held on the first Friday of the semester, January 21st, from 5:00 pm-1:00 am in the Honors Commons. Gatsby-themed refreshments were served, including mocktails, and many attendees "dressed Gatsby."

"I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited. People were not invited—they went there." ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
