Transfer Advising Program | Pre-advising for Transfer Students

Before applying, please review the Transfer Admissions Requirements. You will find information about how the University of Houston makes transfer admission decisions. Many UH majors and programs have requirements that go above and beyond the UH general admission requirements. These additional requirements are under the heading "Impacted Major Requirements."

General Transfer Admission Requirements

Students who submit a complete transfer application file (including the application, application fee, official college transcript(s) and any applicable admission items) to the University of Houston by the transfer admission deadline will be reviewed for admission. Note: Official transcripts must be received from all previously attended institutions.

Transfer applicants are reviewed for admission to only the first and second choice major selected on the ApplyTexas Application.

The following sliding scale is used for general transfer admission to the University of Houston:

Hours of college-level creditMinimum cumulative GPA*
0-14 Must meet freshman criteria
15-29 2.50
30+ 2.00

*All grades from college-level courses, including repeated courses, are used in computing the cumulative grade point average (GPA). All colleges attended must be U.S. regionally accredited.

Impacted Major Requirements: Transfer applicants are admitted to a specific major. Several UH majors require selective admission criteria in addition to general transfer admission. For information, go to Impacted Major Requirements.

General admission to the University of Houston will be granted to applicants who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from the last school attended, as long as the school is U.S. regionally accredited. Note: Impacted Major Requirements apply to applicants with Associate of Science and Associate of Art degrees.

Applicants who are not eligible to return immediately to the last institution attended will not be admitted.

If a student wishes to defer enrollment to a future term, he/she must reapply by submitting a new application, application fee and any updated admissions documents.

Recalculation Process: Transfer applicants applying for the fall semester may be eligible for a grade recalculation. Grade recalculations are for transfer applicants who believe the addition of spring coursework may change the outcome of their admissions decision. International applicants will not be considered for the Recalculation process.

Students must complete the Recalculation Form here and submit updated transcripts reflecting spring grades by June 1, 2014.

Impacted Major Requirements

The following majors have additional selection criteria over and above the general admissions requirements. For a PDF of the Impacted Major Requirements please click here.

Architecture Majors

Application priority deadline is February 1. Admission is granted for the fall semester only. Applicants are encouraged to submit an 8.5"x11" portfolio clearly marked with the student's name, contact information and myUH ID. Portfolios will only be returned to applicants who include stamped envelopes with the appropriate postage.

Business Majors

Applicants with between 15 and 60 semester hours must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average, including any attempted transfer courses.

Applicants with more than 60 semester hours must have a 3.0 or higher grade point average on the last 60 hours of college-level coursework, including any attempted transfer courses. If the 60th semester hour occurs in the middle of a semester, all grades for that semester are included in the calculation.

Applicants who have attempted coursework at the University of Houston also must have at least a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average at the University of Houston.

NOTE: The calculation of transfer GPA includes all transfer work, including courses that did not transfer because of a low grade. In addition, grades of "I" (Incomplete) are calculated as grades of "F".

Transfer GPA Calculator

For admissions into UH, only college-level (non-developmental) courses will be used for GPA Calculations.

Disclaimer: The calculator is used for advisement purposes only. The University of Houston uses grade point averages calculated to the 100th power (the second digit following the decimal point) and does not round numbers up.

If using this GPA calculator for UH admissions, please use the GPA values given.
