My research has a holistic and empirical nature: it is motivated by practical problems encountered in emerging networks and large distributed systems, and it involves conceptual design and evaluation aspects. I am keen on the idea of developing self-adapting, measurement-driven systems: systems that can learn how to cope with unexpected events and systematically adjust themselves to improve or prevent degradation of efficiency, performance, and robustness.

Topics of my interest:

  • Cognitive networking
  • Pervasive communications and computing, mobile computing
  • Wireless networks: sensor, ad hoc, delay tolerant
  • Autonomic networking and situated communications
  • Multi-agent systems
  • Overlay and P2P networks
  • Distributed simulations
  • Virtualization and cloud computing
  • Green computing and networking
  • Performance evaluation and measurement
