Colleges are facing increasing pressure to demonstrate the labor market value of investments in their training programs. Gainful employment regulations are looming, a bipartisan Student Right to Know Before You Go Act has been introduced to the Senate, and the White House has published a College Scorecard evaluating student loan default rates and employment outcomes. Given this environment of scrutiny, colleges will need to build capacity to collect stronger student outcome data and monitor regional labor markets to ensure that their program offerings align with employer demand. The purpose of this discussion is to have some of the evaluators behind these types of scorecards share insight into how colleges can structure student data and use labor market resources to better position themselves for impending legislation.
