A model of the efforts of high schools and Austin Community College to align their courses and provide students with a strong transition from high school to postsecondary education will be presented. This workshop is the place to discover which occupations in Central Texas will be in demand in the years to come. In the afternoon, we will have a variety of representatives from non-traditional careers and programs of study on hand to share information with school counselors.

This training is an introduction to creating a campus culture of resiliency based on program developed by Nan Henderson who is renowned across the United States as an expert in resiliency. Resiliency in Schools is about teaching children to overcome adversity. It is an approach that staff can use with students to teach and model ways to use individual strengths, critical-thinking, and problem solving. Motivational speaker Fabian Ramirez shares his strategies to motivate students to stay in school and seek higher education. After hearing Ramirez speak, school counselors will walk away with the knowledge they need to help students think about the importance of goal setting and striving to for success.

The AVID National Conference is a forum to discuss and share best practices on opening access to rigorous curriculum for all.
