Former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, Tours CNRCS


Kalam Visit

Former president of India and aeronautical engineer, APJ Abdul Kalam, met with CNRCS director Dr. Jan-Åke Gustafsson for a tour of the Center on Monday, August 22. The meeting included an overview of CNRCS research and personnel, a walkthrough of the lab areas and a scientific discussion between Gustafsson and Kalam. The meeting was arranged through the office of University of Houston president, Dr. Renu Khator.

The Center was featured in a tour of UH research facilities, following Kalam’s speech to more than 300 students at the University of Houston Hilton hotel and conference center. He also was awarded a UH Presidential Medallion during his visit.

Kalam was the 11th president of India, following a distinguished career with the Indian Space Research Organization. He currently is the chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, and recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India’s most prestigious civilian award.
