COVID Testing After Spring Break

University of Houston

Dear Students:

At the University of Houston, our top priorities remain the health, safety and well-being of you, our students.

As you return from Spring Break next week, we strongly encourage you to be tested before returning to campus.  In fact, we urge you to be tested any time you think you have symptoms suggestive of COVID or have been exposed to the virus – or just routinely (as often as weekly) even if you have no symptoms and have not been exposed.

In addition to the Curative kiosk on campus, there are other free COVID testing options in the Greater Houston area. And remember that we already have testing available on campus through the Student Health Center for those who are symptomatic or have been identified as being exposed and meet certain other requirements.

While regular testing is tremendously valuable for combatting COVID-19, let’s not overlook the fundamental importance of continuing to wear masks, maintaining social distance and practicing good handwashing and respiratory hygiene.  And it’s still crucial that you self-isolate if you are infected with the virus, and self-quarantine if you have been exposed.  It will take all these tools – and all of us using them responsibly – to win this fight. But I’m confident we can do it.

Sincerely,

Stephen J. Spann, M.D., M.B.A.
