Dear faculty, staff and students, What is happening: University of Houston (UH) will begin blocking TikTok as well as other prohibited technologies and covered applications on January 3, 2025. TikTok will be unavailable on the UH network. UH departmental IT staff and University Information Technology will begin removing TikTok and other prohibited applications from UH owned computers and mobile devices. Why is this happening: On December 7th 2022, Governor Abbott issued a directive for all state agencies to ban select technologies and applications effective immediately. As a result of this order and further clarification in Texas Government Code 620, the University of Houston System (UHS) created SAM 07.A.12 – Prohibited Technologies and Covered Applications to address these directives. What you need to do: If you are using a UHS-issued device, you need to remove any applications or prohibited technology listed in the FAQ link below immediately. In addition, UH will implement additional controls to block these technologies and applications. Dive deeper: Regards,
