So, please consider participating in the following summer camps and music classes at the UH Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts! UH students, faculty, and staff receive special discounts and scholarships to select programs!

New this summer! FUNDAMENTALS OF PIANO GROUP CLASS
FOR ADULTS

Master the fundamentals of piano playing in this fun and inspiring group music making class for adults (15 – up). Held at the UH Moores School of Music and led by a master piano teacher, this course delves into various musical styles, from classical to pop, fostering a comprehensive understanding of piano playing.

Participants will delve into piano technique essentials, sight-reading skills, expressive playing, rhythmic precision, harmonic comprehension, and ear training.

Cost: $450 for five, 90-minute group classes in the summer, of ten, hour-long group classes in the fall/spring or (enrollment capped at 15 students). 
Day and time: Mondays at 6:00 p.m. (summer classes, June 17 – July 15)

In the fall! FUNDAMENTALS OF GUITAR GROUP CLASS

Jeremy Garcia, affiliate professor of guitar at the UH Moores School of Music, will introduce students to a variety of music styles, including classical, flamenco, jazz and American popular music, all employing finger-style methods.

Students will receive instruction in guitar technique, music reading, tone production, musical expression, rhythm, harmony, and ear-training.

Cost: $450 for ten hour-long group classes (enrollment capped at 8 students).
Day and time: Mondays at 6:30 p.m.

Summer and fall: MUSIC LESSONS KIDS, ADULTS, AND UH STUDENTS!

Kids & Teens enrolled in piano, violin, viola, cello, organ, harp, guitar, and voice studies at the Community Arts Academy receive two weekly classes:

  • Weekly private lesson with CAA Teaching Fellows with guidance from UH Moores School master faculty. Students may enroll in either 30-, 45-, or 60-minute lessons.
  • Weekly Saturday group learning experiences, which include performance classes, Adventures to fascination UH destinations, musicianship classes that improve music literacy, music composition skills, improvisation skills, and collaboration skills.

Adult music studies students receive a weekly private lesson, plus opportunities to participate in monthly performance salons, online music theory courses, piano chamber music experiences, and free access to special topic seminars.

UH faculty, staff, and students receive a 10% discount on their lesson tuition. Early registration discounts are also available.

SUMMER CAMPS

Texas Music Festival: Pre-College Piano Institute
For High School Pianists
June 16-23, 2023

A fantastic, two-week immersion program for high school keyboardists of all levels taught by Moores School of Music professors. Each student receives private lessons on their principal instrument as well as the opportunity for elective studies in piano, organ, harpsichord, and fortepiano.

Texas Music Festival: Jazz Institutes
For High School and Middle School Jazz Musicians
June 16-21, 2023

Intensive training in improvisation, theory and history, plus instrument-based masterclasses and ensemble rehearsals. Led by University of Houston faculty and top Houston-area jazz musicians and educators, the institute culminates in a final concert on Friday night in the Moores Opera House.

Cougar Band Camp

The University of Houston Cougar Band Camp is a week-long summer concert band day camp for middle school students wanting to grow as artists, meet new people, and learn more about their instrument and music.

The UH Honor Band Project is an elite college immersion experience where Texas's most accomplished student musicians will spend their days in ensemble rehearsals, coachings with our world-renowned music faculty, and various university enrichment experiences.

Texas Low Brass Academy
For Middle and High School Low Brass Students
July 9 – July 12

The Texas Low Brass Academy at the University of Houston invites all high school and middle school students (trombone, euphonium & tuba) for 4 full days of instrument-specific experiences that only take place at the TLBA Summer Camp. Join us in July to learn from the Moores School of Music low brass faculty and other esteemed educators, meet new friends, improve your playing skills while having fun, perform in chamber groups, and more!
