Introducing: Campus Rec - The Red Zone

UH Campus Recreation is committed to providing recreational experiences that inspire student success and lifelong well-being. With that, Campus Rec is excited to announce the opening of a new addition to the Rec Center: the Red Zone, a brand-new functional fitness area to bring fitness to all members on a whole new level.  Functional fitness is a practice that emphasizes strength, flexibility, and endurance with exercises that mimic everyday movements such as pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lunging. Functional fitness also improves athletic performance for athletes, everyday fitness enthusiasts, and beginners alike.

Located on the first floor of the Rec Center, the Red Zone boasts six new squat racks on one side, turf in the middle, and rigs on the other side equipped with punching bags, core bags, medicine balls, slam balls, battle ropes, and more! You will also find cardio machines such as air bikes, skiers, treadmills, and rowers, as well as dumbbells and more in the new space.  Fitness Program Manager, Dani comments that “it’s been a few months of construction and it’s exciting to see the Red Zone develop.” She is “looking forward to seeing students gravitate towards the Red Zone and enjoy the new space.” Brittany, the Assistant Director of Fitness, similarly shares her excitement to see the students’ reactions to the new fitness space.  The Red Zone is more than just another fitness space, but a place to cultivate community for fitness lovers of all levels. Be on the lookout for Red Zone classes coming soon and join us on November 6 in the Red Zone!
