Public Art UHS is thrilled to introduce Rachel Mohl as our newly appointed Executive Director and Chief Curator. Rachel will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Public Art UHS and the art landscape across the four UH System universities, home to one of the most significant university-based public art collections in the United States. In her dynamic new role, Rachel will spearhead the growth and enhancement of our Temporary Public Art program, bringing thought-provoking artworks by diverse regional, national, and international artists to our communities. She will also lead in creating signature, site-specific commissions aligned with UH's centennial master plan, and expand our educational and outreach programming to foster art appreciation and cultural enrichment across the UH System universities. Public Art UHS Hosts Symposium in Celebration of the Linda and William Reaves Collection of Texas Art at UHV

Public Art UHS and the University of Houston-Victoria proudly hosted the Linda and William Reaves Collection of Texas Art Symposium, celebrating the generous donation of 40 remarkable pieces of Texas art to the Victoria campus. This collection, featuring works by notable Texas artists working in the region during UHV’s 50-year history, was thoughtfully curated and gifted by Linda and William Reaves, with additional contributions from donors including Rebecca Lee and Maurice Schmidt, Irma and Dr. Jim Brand, and Kay Betz. The symposium featured a curator-led collection tour and two engaging panel sessions that delved into the historical and cultural significance of Texas art, all in celebration of UHV's 50th anniversary. Immerse yourself in this collection of photography, silkscreens, lithographs, collage, sculpture, and original drawings by renowned modern masters like Dorothy Hood, Joan Miró, Matisse, Robert Motherwell, and Dorthrea Tanning. The exhibition will be on view at the Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston from October 7–15, 2023.

Established in 1969, Public Art of the University of Houston System (Public Art UHS) is the oldest, most significant and only collecting arts organization within the University of Houston System, the fourth-largest university system in Texas. Through robust programing, publications, research and collection, it serves diverse communities throughout greater Houston and Southeast Texas as well as stakeholders including more than 74,000 students and nearly 10,000 faculty and staff from four distinct universities: University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, University of Houston-Clear Lake, and University of Houston-Victoria. Public Art UHS oversees the permanent collection of the four UH System universities, which is one of the most significant university-based art collections in the United States.
