February 23 to April 6, 2022 - O’Kane Gallery at the University of Houston-Downtown May 19 to June 24, 2022 - University of Houston-Clear Lake Art Gallery Andy Warhol famously declared that he “never met a person I couldn’t call a beauty.” Public Art UHS's first traveling exhibition, Instantaneous Beauty: Andy Warhol and the Photographic Process, explores his all-encompassing ideas on beauty, particularly in its relationship to photography. The exhibition highlights Public Art UHS's extraordinary collection of Andy Warhol photographs (made between 1975 and 1985), placing these in dialogue with his finished works and those by several of his closest collaborators.

Dorothy Hood: The Edge of Being October 2021 – March 2023 University of Houston and University of Houston-Clear Lake, multiple locations Dorothy Hood: The Edge of Being explores the artist’s interest in dualities and frictions, present in both her conceptual stances and in the formal qualities of her work. Together with ephemera and other materials from Hood’s personal archive, the works featured in the exhibition serve as extraordinary examples of the intensity and soul that defined her being.

Muna Al-Bader | Cultural Bonds, 2021 November 2021 – November 2022 University of Houston, Arts District Public Art UHS recently unveiled a mural from Qatari artist Muna Al-Bader as part of the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture. Titled Cultural Bonds, the mural celebrates half a century of cultural ties and strong diplomatic relations between the United States and the artist’s home country. “My work is like a spoken language, even if you don’t understand my language, you can see my art and understand my culture.”

Oscar Murillo's Frequencies Project Public Art UHS is working with Turner-prize winning artist Oscar Murillo (Colombian, b. 1986) and his studio to realize the Houston iteration of his landmark participatory project Frequencies. The project sends pieces of raw canvas to schools around the globe with the sole requirement that they be affixed to desks for a period of six months inviting students to freely draw, write, and doodle during their normal school day.
