Campus Rec Center Reopening

Welcome back to the Rec Center, Coogs! The newly renovated fitness zone and track reopened on February 13th, marking an exciting month of progress and activities. After a successful reopening, we noticed some confusion with the turnstiles, so as a quick reminder: swipe your Cougar Card or scan the UHREC app on your way in, but on your way out, simply walk through, and the gate will open automatically.

Don't forget to explore the fully-equipped fitness zone, offering cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights. Join our monthly fitness challenges for some extra motivation. In February, we celebrated Valentine's Day with a week of events, from yoga to spa treatments, and extended giveaways until February 23rd, featuring prizes like massage guns and wireless headphones. Missed out? No problem! Look forward to Rec Fest on March 28th, a social event with games, entertainment, and giveaways, celebrating the reopening of the outdoor leisure pool and climbing wall. Stay tuned for more upcoming events on our website and Instagram @uhrecreation.

FAFSA Delays - State Priority Deadline Extended to April 15th

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid would like to make you aware of an important update regarding the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

State Priority Deadline Extended to April 15
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has extended the 2024-25 (FY 2025) state financial aid application priority deadline from March 15, 2024, to April 15, 2024, due to exigent circumstances related to federal aid development, as authorized under Texas Administrative Code 22.6(3).

2024-25 FAFSA Simplification Act and Delays
As a reminder, the FAFSA Simplification Act was enacted by Congress as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. This law reduces the number of questions students will have to answer on the form, makes crucial changes to the Higher Education Act of 1965 to expand Pell Grant eligibility and removes outdated restrictions to make federal student aid more accessible to all students. Due to the major changes, the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office of Federal Student Aid informed colleges and universities earlier this month they will not be ready to send students’ completed Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) to institutions until the first half of March at the earliest.

Please encourage students to complete their 2024-25 FAFSA applications as soon as possible to avoid any additional delays. We will continue to keep students, families and the community informed via electronic correspondence and our FAFSA Simplification Act website.

If you have any questions, we encourage you to call us at 713-743-1010, option 5, or email us at sfa@central.uh.edu.

Welcome to MD Anderson Library

Every person entering the MD Anderson Library must enter using a valid photo ID. A valid ID is a physical Cougar Card or a physical government-issued ID. A physical Cougar Card is required to enter through the turnstiles. Use the magnetic swipe reader or proximity card sensor to enter the library through the turnstiles. To enter with a physical government-issued ID, sign in at the security officer's desk (at the far left as you enter). Non-UH visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult with a valid photo ID. Tour guides and group leaders will need to enter and exit using their Cougar Card at turnstile #7 (at the far right as you enter). The access control system has pass-through capability to allow groups to enter without each person having to swipe a card. Remember to bring your physical Cougar Card for fast, easy, and secure access to MD Anderson Library: swipe or tap at the turnstiles.
