Graduate & Professional Student Appreciation Week

Greetings Graduate, Professional, & Doctoral Students, Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week is an annual observance designed to recognize and celebrate the valuable contributions of graduate and professional students in academia and beyond. Typically held during the first week of April, this week-long event highlights the dedication, perseverance, and achievements of individuals pursuing advanced degrees.

The purpose of the week is to foster a sense of community, express gratitude for the vital role graduate and professional students play in research and education, and raise awareness about the unique challenges they may face. Various universities and institutions organize events, workshops, and activities to honor these students and promote a supportive environment for their continued success. FAFSA Delays - State Priority Deadline Extended to April 15th

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid would like to make you aware of an important update regarding the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

State Priority Deadline Extended to April 15
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has extended the 2024-25 (FY 2025) state financial aid application priority deadline from March 15, 2024, to April 15, 2024, due to exigent circumstances related to federal aid development, as authorized under Texas Administrative Code 22.6(3).

2024-25 FAFSA Simplification Act and Delays
As a reminder, the FAFSA Simplification Act was enacted by Congress as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. This law reduces the number of questions students will have to answer on the form, makes crucial changes to the Higher Education Act of 1965 to expand Pell Grant eligibility and removes outdated restrictions to make federal student aid more accessible to all students. Due to the major changes, the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office of Federal Student Aid informed colleges and universities earlier this month they will not be ready to send students’ completed Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) to institutions until the first half of March at the earliest.

Please encourage students to complete their 2024-25 FAFSA applications as soon as possible to avoid any additional delays. We will continue to keep students, families and the community informed via electronic correspondence and our FAFSA Simplification Act website.

If you have any questions, we encourage you to call us at 713-743-1010, option 5, or email us at sfa@central.uh.edu.

Conference: Where are we driving? Changing the Map for Non-Medical Drivers of Health

We aim to discuss the future role of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in public health as catalysts for positive change in an ever changing healthcare landscape. CHWs are a crucial workforce for building intersections between community, social, and clinical institutions and supporting communities in navigating non-medical social drivers of health. In order to do this work, CHWs need to be supported by employers, payers, and public health professionals to have an evolved role that promotes health equity and advocacy.
