The start of the new school year and the 2022 UH Weeks of Welcome (#uhwow22), which represents the first two weeks of the fall semester (Thursday, August 18 – Saturday, September 3), is kicking into high gear. As part of the many UHWOW22 events and programs, numerous departments, student leaders, faculty and staff will be working to connect students with university resources, student organizations and the surrounding community. The success of many of these events rely on the efforts of UH student leaders, faculty, and staff volunteers to be successful. Below are some great opportunities to connect with new and returning students. I hope that you will consider volunteering to make UHWOW22 the best yet! To sign up for one (or more) volunteer opportunities, see the information below for specific event information. Some examples of volunteer roles include students check-in, directional support, and t-shirt/giveaway/food distribution. Volunteers will also receive a promotional items or giveaway for their time. The events that are looking for volunteers includes a very brief description as indicated below:
- International Student Orientation Fair: Thursday, August 18, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM in the Student Center, Ballroom

- Student Center Welcome Back: Tuesday, August 23, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM in the Student Center
- At Student Centers Welcome Back, students will have the opportunity to discover all the amazing services and spaces here at our Student Centers. - Cougar Con: Tuesday, August 23, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Student Center, Houston Room
- Students will be able to participate in Cougar Con, the first ever convention at UH featuring anime, cosplay, board game and video game stations, and various student vendors! Students will be able to get free food and an e-sports tournament hosted by Coog Esports - the UH gaming student organization. - Cat’s Back: Wednesday, August 24 and Thursday, August 25, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Student Center
- For 20 years, the Cat's Back has been welcoming students, both new and returning, to campus. At this event students will be connected with student organizations, eat free food, participate in fun activities, have chances to win awesome prizes, and a FREE t-shirt. - Cage Rage: Friday, August 26, 5:30 PM – 8:30PM at TDECU Stadium, Gate #2
- The Athletics’ feature event is Cage Rage! Cage Rage is an opportunity for students to be on the field at TDECU Stadium, along with music from DJ Yobi Yobz, an incredible silent disco, games, inflatables, selfie stations, skills challenges, and much more! Students will also be able to enjoy the tailgate area which offers tailgate games, video games, free snacks, and drinks while supplies last. Students can also participate in our grand pep rally featuring the Spirit of Houston Band, Cheer and Dance teams, plus Coach Holgorsen and Houston Cougar Football players! - Cultural Taste of Houston: Tuesday, August 30, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Student Center North Lawn
- Cultural Taste of Houston is a food festival that is part of Weeks of Welcome. We invite local food trucks from the greater Houston area to campus to showcase their most popular and tasty menu items. Thanks to our partnerships, attendees are able to experience many varieties of international cuisine at a low cost! - Shasta’s Open House: Thursday, September 1, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM on and around campus
- Shasta’s Open House is a single-day, campus-wide open house event. Students will have the opportunity to visit different offices and departments to learn more about how they can help students achieve success. - Healthy Tailgate Watch Party: Saturday, September 3, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Student Center, Houston Room
- Join fellow Coogs for food, football, and fun as we cheer on our team in the first game of the season. UH faces UTSA in San Antonio. Volunteers are needed to check students into the event, set up, run games, lead half-time line dances, and tear down. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and food.
