Dear Faculty and Staff,

In a previous message, we announced UH’s adoption of Canvas as its learning management system (LMS). Following reviews of many top learning management systems, a selection committee (comprised of faculty, staff, administrators and accessibility experts) concluded that Canvas would best serve UH’s academic enterprise.

The transition to Canvas will begin with a soft launch in Spring 2023 for a select group of faculty, who can apply here by Oct. 21 to participate in this early rollout.

During Summer 2023, UH will fully transition to Canvas and by Fall 2023, Blackboard will no longer be available.

We are confident that that Canvas will support teaching and most importantly, our students’ learning experiences at UH. Top school districts and peer institutions are already using this platform.

Of course, a smooth changeover to Canvas will require your participation. Please review the Power-On FAQs page below for timeline, migration, training, tutorials, and other specifics.

The Blackboard and Faculty and Departmental Instructional Support teams, and college Instructional Designers are ready to assist you as we shift to a modern and accessible learning management system.

Thank you for your support as we begin this transition to a new learning management system that will support our institution’s academic growth.
