Dear UH Faculty  and Staff,

I am pleased to announce Dr. James M. Briggs will serve as the University of Houston’s Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs. In this role, he will support the recruitment, hiring, orientation, professional development, recognition, promotion and tenure of faculty.

Dr. Briggs is a veteran academic leader, noted scholar and Professor of Biochemistry in UH’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM). He joined the University in 1998 and has held leadership positions within NSM, including Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs.

I look forward to working with him soon and would like to extend special thanks to his predecessor Dr. Mark Clarke who stayed on to help me during my first few months as provost.

Dr. Clarke has been a steadfast supporter of our faculty and a valuable team member within the Office of the Provost. He will return to his faculty role as an Associate Professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ Department of Health and Human Performance.

As an Associate Provost, Dr. Briggs joins the Provost’s Cabinet and will officially start on July 1. Please join me in welcoming him to his new role!

Respectfully,

Diane Z. Chase
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
