Dear UH Community,

Cullen College of Engineering Dean Joseph Tedesco is stepping down from his post on Oct. 31 to serve as Special Assistant to the Provost.

All of us at UH appreciate his hard work in helping build the college into one of the region’s premier engineering schools. During his time at the helm, the college has earned recognition by U.S. News and World Report for its graduate programs. Under Dean Tedesco's leadership, the college significantly contributed to the tripling of research expenditures at UH since 2008 by garnering major grants, including national centers and the most recent U.S. Department of Defense contract of $63.5 million. Most recently, he played a critical role in the Division of Technology’s merger with the Cullen College.

We are grateful for Dr. Tedesco’s contributions to both the Cullen College of Engineering and UH. He is an exceptional scholar in the discipline of civil engineering and will continue to support student success and academic excellence at the University.

Pradeep Sharma, chair of the department of mechanical engineering, will serve as interim dean as we begin a national search for the next leader of the Cullen College of Engineering.

I’d like to thank Dr. Tedesco for his exceptional service to the college and its students and offer my gratitude to Dr. Sharma for accepting the role of interim dean.

Updates on the search process, including committee members and selection of an executive firm, will be available soon.

Respectfully,

Diane Z. Chase
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, UH
