Dear UH Community,

I hope this message finds you well as we approach the conclusion of Spring 2023.

With a few weeks left before semester’s end, I know everyone is in high gear preparing our Coogs for finals if not graduation. Thank you for helping them cross the finish line!

I’d also like to thank those who joined me during the Faculty Senate’s Spring Faculty Assembly last week. I delivered my Spring Report to the community, and I was happy to share updates related to our efforts supporting student success, research and faculty development. The latter is particularly critical as we make key faculty hires and work alongside current professors to ensure their success at our institution.

Faculty and staff at UH remain a priority, and we’re working diligently to recruit and retain quality professionals across our campus. In doing so, we are closely watching what is happening in Austin. As President Khator stated in her April 3 message to the community, the University is awaiting the conclusion of the legislative session to determine our budget for FY2024.

Until then, it’s imperative that we work with our spring graduates as they get ready for the upcoming Commencement ceremonies May 10 – 13. We’re still a few weeks away from this event, so let’s continue to encourage our Coogs as they approach this very special moment in their lives.

It’s certainly been a busy, productive and at times, a challenging semester for all of us. Through it all, you have demonstrated resiliency and a commitment to our students.

Since my arrival, many of you have shared your thoughts on how we as a university can better serve our campus community. We have heard you and are still listening. I look forward to gathering more feedback and working alongside all of you in supporting our students … and each other.

Thanks for all that you do for our Coogs and for the University of Houston!

Respectfully,

Diane Z. Chase
