Paula Myrick ShortSenior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

Dear Faculty and Students,

The Houston area remains under a Winter Weather Advisory and the University of Houston continues to monitor the potential for light freezing rain late Thursday into Friday. As no significant impact is expected locally, the University expects to continue with normal operations through this period. However, isolated icy conditions may occur in the metro area and those who commute from our far northern and western counties or areas under Winter Storm Warnings may encounter more hazardous conditions. Please use caution while in transit and prioritize your safety.

For faculty members who find circumstances that may prevent them from traveling, please pivot to remote for your classes making sure to inform your students as soon as possible. Although the University of Houston campuses may remain open, keep in mind that students may be impacted by the weather in their area. I ask that you respond with a thoughtful and flexible approach.

Students impacted should consult the University of Houston Undergraduate Excused Absence Policy and the Graduate Excused Absence Policy which provides options for weather related events.

Please visit uh.edu/emergency for updates on campus operations.
