Dear faculty, staff and students,

While COVID-19 is still with us, it’s far more manageable now with advancements in treatment, successes in vaccination and higher immunity among the U.S. population. As the CDC noted last week, the “pandemic has now shifted to a new phase.” As such, the University of Houston will be updating our COVID-policies and operations. You can expect the following changes effective Tuesday, June 21:

  • Students, faculty and staff will no longer be required to self-report cases and no longer need to complete the COVID-19 Diagnosis Form, Potential Exposure Form or Request to Return to Campus Form. However, you are still required to follow the UH COVID-19 Protocols if you are symptomatic, test positive or are exposed to someone who has tested positive, which may include self-isolation or quarantine.
  • Events will no longer be restricted by COVID-19 Event Guidelines.
  • UH business travel requests will return to pre-COVID procedures through use of the Concur Travel System and pursuant to MAPP 04.02.01B.
  • The UH COVID-19 Positive Case Reporting Dashboard will publish a final update on Monday, June 20 and will cease to be updated or published thereafter.
  • The UH COVID-19 website will be streamlined to include the most relevant information, including the guidelines for those who are symptomatic, test positive or have been exposed.
  • Specialty cleaning for positive cases will cease based on the low risk of fomite transmission (getting sick from a surface that has virus particles on it). We will continue to do routine cleaning throughout our facilities.

The following services will continue without disruption:

  • On-Campus COVID-19 Testing: The walk-up kiosk on campus is available free to UH faculty, students and staff regardless of whether you have symptoms. The testing service, located in front of the UH Student Center South, is available by appointment, seven days a week. Visit the COVID-19 Testing page for testing information and to schedule an appointment.
  • On-Campus Vaccines: The Campus Pharmacy offers Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines by appointment to UH students, faculty and staff. Visit the Campus Pharmacy website for more information and to schedule your appointment.

The University of Houston will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and remain vigilant. If conditions warrant, we will update our policies and guidelines accordingly.
