Dear UH Community,

The start of the academic year brings many fall traditions and back-to-school activities. It’s also a perfect time to showcase more student success stories via Provost Profiles!

In this edition of the video series, I spotlight father and son students Dave and Alex Schuman at the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design. Usually, children might follow their parents’ footsteps into college. This time, however, dad Dave learned about UH and its famed architecture and design programs from his son.

Alex had his sights set on the college’s esteemed industrial design program, and his father was considering a career change. Architecture, Dave said, was always his dream profession and UH provided him an opportunity to explore the discipline.

Father and son ultimately became proud Coogs and would spend quite a bit of time working on projects in the Hines College. As you can tell by my conversation with the Schumans, their higher education experience has made them closer than ever.

I had the good fortune of visiting with them in their college’s William R. Jenkins Architecture, Design and Art Library.

Their story is inspiring, and I am happy to share it with you!

Have a great start to the fall semester!
