Recordings in class Teams channels

Microsoft is changing the way recordings are stored. The New Stream experience provides three options for recording and storing video.

Starting May 16th, recordings of meetings in Teams channels, including most classes, will be automatically stored in SharePoint and will be viewed by going to the Files tab in the channelIn the image below, you can see the Recordings folder was created when a meeting was recorded in the Andy channel of the UIT Teams Pilot team.

NOTE: The Teams interface will not change, the only change is where recordings get stored.  This will be the method most used by workgroups and classes that meet in scheduled Team meetings.

New Recording Location

Recordings from a person’s calendar

Recordings of meetings organized on a user’s personal calendar will be stored in the user’s OneDrive, in a folder labeled “Recordings.” This is the method that will be used when you schedule meetings outside of a formal Team.   In the screenshot below, you can see the Recordings folder was created in OneDrive after a meeting on a person’s calendar was recorded.

Classic Stream

The Classic Stream service currently in use will continue to be available for one to two years, but recordings will no longer load automatically from Teams. To share a video through Classic Stream, a user can upload the file and set permissions as they would with other streaming services.

Timing and tech support

The change to the “New Stream Experience” will take place on May 16 at 10 pm, but anyone who would like to switch earlier can do so by requesting at office365@uh.edu. Technical staff in different areas of the University have been switched so that they can see the new behavior and be fully prepared to support their users once this change occurs.

If you have questions, please reach out to your local technical personnel, or email office365@uh.edu.
