At the 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Sandra Guerra Thompson, Newell H. Blakely Professor of Law, interviewed Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five. Salaam shared his experience of being wrongfully convicted in 1989, and ideas for improving the criminal justice system.

Bauer Professor Named MSI Scholar
Seshadri Tirunillai, Michael J. Cemo Associate Professor of Marketing at the C. T. Bauer College of Business, was named a Marketing Science Institute Scholar. The MSI Scholars program recognizes top mid-career scholars worldwide in marketing. 

Exhibit Highlights Beginning of UH African American Studies
An upcoming student-curated exhibit at UH Libraries features the inception of the UH African American Studies Program in 1969. “Forged by Protest: Student Organization Afro Americans for Black Liberation and the Genesis of the UH African American Studies Program,” was curated by Research for Aspiring Coogs in the Humanities scholar Saron Regassa.   

Survey Gauges Public Support for School Vouchers
A majority of Texans say they support some form of taxpayer-funded assistance for parents who want to send their children to religious or other private schools. This comes from a survey from the Hobby School of Public Affairs. 

Call for Science and Engineering Fair Judges
The STEM Center is calling for volunteers to serve as judges at the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston, happening Saturday, Feb. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center. SEFH is the largest regional science fair in Texas, with nearly 1,000 middle and high school student participants. A bachelor’s degree and registration are required.
