For students interested in social sciences, social issues and liberal arts like history and philosophy, Human Development and Family Sciences is the intersection of these studies. College of Education faculty recently gained state approval to change the second part of the program's name from “Family Studies” to “Family Sciences,” to reflect its real-world, data-based approach.

Plan to attend a lecture featuring Robert D. Bullard, known as the father of environmental justice. Bullard will use examples from his research on Houston and the Gulf Coast to show how race and class still map closely with pollution, unequal protection and vulnerability.
