Lorena Gauthereau, digital program manager for the UH’s U.S. Latino Digital Humanities program and the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage project, has been recognized by the Mellon Foundation for her work recovering U.S. Latino literature.

Hobby School Dean Jim Granato

Provost Paula Myrick Short has appointed longtime leader of the Hobby School Jim Granato to a two-year term as Dean of the Hobby School of Public Affairs. Granato will build upon the great strides accomplished during the past year and the continued realization of the Hobby School vision.

In Memoriam: Professor Ronald Turner
UH Law Center Professor Ronald Turner has passed away. Turner joined the Law Center faculty in 1998 and was the A.A. White Professor of Law. He was the first African-American full professor in the Law Center’s history. Turner specialized in labor law, employment law, constitutional law, and taught employment discrimination, labor law, torts, constitutional law, and a course on HIV/AIDS and the law.

Renshaw Wins Junior Faculty Award for Excellence in Research
Andrew Renshaw, assistant professor of physics, received the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics 2021 Junior Faculty Award for Excellence in Research. Renshaw also received the 2021 University of Houston Award for Excellence in Research, Scholarship or Creative Activity for an assistant professor.

Ticak Receives Armistead Teaching Excellence Award
Associate Clinical Professor Anita Ticak, O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O., is the recipient of the 2021 Cora and J. Davis Armistead Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Optometry. The award honors excellence and innovation in the classroom.

Summer 2021 Flextime Work Schedule Guidelines Announced
Colleges and divisions may implement a flex workweek for regular, full-time staff during the summer. Participation by departments and employees is strictly voluntary, must be approved in advance and not all jobs can be adapted to a flexible work schedule.

Take Your Child to Work Day
Monday, June 14 – Friday, June 18
Take Your Child to Work Day will take place virtually from Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18.  UH will provide up to 150 activity kits for kids on a first-come-first-serve basis to UH faculty and staff who register. Kits will contain supply lists for featured videos and activities materials.
