A $1 million gift from Houston Methodist to UH will establish the Houston Methodist Professorship of Medical Education. The professor will have a joint appointment in UH College of Education and UH College of Medicine, and an adjunct appointment at the Houston Methodist Academic Institute.
Mohan IDs Potential Biomarkers for Neuropsychiatric Symptoms of Lupus
Chandra Mohan, Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Endowed Professor of biomedical engineering, screened more than 1,100 proteins in fluid surrounding the brains of neuropsychiatric lupus patients. He identified proteins that had potential use in diagnosing the disease.
Biomedical Engineering Professor Part of International Forum Addressing Pandemic
Metin Akay, John S. Dunn Endowed Chair Professor of biomedical engineering, served as lead author for an international forum of experts who provided a comprehensive and multi-dimensional perspective on the pandemic crisis. The U.S. is headed down the wrong track, said a large majority of Texans in a survey from Hobby School of Public Affairs. When asked the same question about the state, survey respondents stood divided more evenly, with a narrow majority thinking Texas is generally headed the right way. A free Blaffer Art Museum exhibition happening through March 13 features the work of conceptual artist and anthropologist Maya Stovall. Using video, objects and performance with a group of UH students, the exhibit aims “to center the history, struggle and insights of the people of Houston and the Southwest,” said Stovall. The 2022 keynote speaker for this virtual event is Gilda Barabino, president of Olin College of Engineering and professor of biomedical and chemical engineering.
