  • Fannin Innovation Studios (FIS) is an early-stage life sciences development group focused on commercializing innovations developed in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) of which UH is full member. UH and FIS enjoy an institutional agreement allowing the formation of joint ventures/start-ups companies around UH technologies, while also providing opportunities to UH students and post-doctoral fellows to participate in the FIS Innovation Fellows program. This agreement most recently led to the formation of Guidabot, Inc., a real-time MRI-guided robotic surgical device, now in development with partners in the TMC. (External Advisory Board Member: Atul Varahdachary; FIS Letter of Support)
  • Houston Health Ventures (HHV) is an early-stage, accelerator program focused on technologies in the healthcare sector. HHV provides initial investments of $30,000 to $120,000 in early-stage technologies and a “custom-fit” 8-week accelerator program for healthcare IT and medical device technologies. To date, HHV has advised several UH I-Corps Site graduates and start-ups on technology-to-market (ToM) strategies, including Resthetics, Teomics and Orintel. HHV recently made an early-stage investment in Luminositics, Inc. (a UH E-Team that successfully graduated from national I-Corps program). (External Advisory Board Member: David Franklin; HHV Letter of Support).
  • Texas Collegiate Regional Center (TCRC) is a US Department of State-designated Regional Center under the EB-5 Regional Center Visa Program. TCRC also manages a US-based venture capital firm, Quoz Capital Partners, targeting a $40M venture capital fund. UH has entered a strategic partnership with TCRC to build additional innovation and co-working space at the UH Energy Research Park that will be open to start-ups and SMEs located in the greater Houston area. As part of this agreement, TCRC has committed up to $10M ($3M minimum) in early-stage investments in promising UH technologies over the next five years.
