International Students

The student body at the University of Houston is a melting polt of cultures and ethnicities representing of over 137 nations.  UH is consistently rated among the top five most diverse institutions in the country.  In 2012, UH ranked among the top 25 colleges and universities in the nation for hosting the most international students on its campus.  International students comprised of over 5000 students at UH in 2012.  The unique diversity that UH offers allows classes to be dynamic, and enriching due to the variety of minds in the classroom.

International students are attracted to UH for a number of reasons. Houston is considered the energy capital of the world and over 23 Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Houston.  Houston is also home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world.  Additionally, the proximity to the Gulf of Mexico allows Houstonians to enjoy some of the best climates year around.  With the great education UH offers, its situation in one of America's coolest cities, and the extensive opportunites students have to get a job in some of the largest companies in the world, there is no doubt why UH is a haven for international students. 

UH offers many services with international students in mind.  The International Student & Scholar Services Office (ISSSO) provides International students with all the advice they need to ensure that their transition to UH is as smooth as possible.  Students are also encouraged to contact their department coordinators or academic advisors with any questions they may have.
