Module 00

Overview

Each week you will complete a module just like this one. I've defined all the things you need to do for the week in the task list below. This first module is a little different since we'll spend some time getting oriented with the course. But all the rest will look the same. Please be sure to email me or ask me in Perusall if you have any questions!

  1. Read the syllabus.
  2. Watch Prof. Fayle's "Course Introduction" and Dr. Behr's lecture - “Introduction to Liberal Studies.”
  3. Take the Practice Quiz in Blackboard.
  4. Read and carefully study the "Metaphysical Options" handout.
  5. Watch the "Academic Arguments" video and read the "Arguments" handout.
  6. Write The Practice Preview on Sartre’s essay and upload to Turnitin in Blackboard.
  7. Create a Perusall account and contribute to the Practice discussion. Visit the syllabus to find the course access code.

Metaphysical Options

This is perhaps the most important item of this module. Please review this document. I'll also post this document to the Perusall discussion board, where you can ask any questions that you may have regarding it.

What is an Argument

Watch the video and read the handout below. These two items will help you immensely as you write your Previews. When grading, I will constantly pay attention to whether you are creating an argument or simply giving a summary or your own opinion. We need to develop arguments in this course, but first we need to know what we mean by arguments. These items will help us with that.
