Staff members from the Facilities/Construction department attended the 2024 Texas College & University Facilities Professionals Conference (TCUF) from September 25 – September 27. This year’s theme was Live, Learn and Play. Attendees engaged in various workshops that included topics related to how facilities and staff in higher education can balance wellness, knowledge and growth.
Senior Facilities Inspector Cesar Villagran was among the F/CM staff to attend and present at the conference.
“Development and continuing education are the foundation of TCUF, and those principals have been instrumental in gaining knowledge and experience in my career. Partnering with Wes Juergen (Austin Commercial) and Natalie Thurman (Shepley Bulfinch) on the topic, Happy Health OAC was an enriching experience and it was an opportunity to share some of the tangible ways we have been able to collaborate to foster an environment that centers the project goals and team wellness,” said Villagran on his experience at the conference.
Villagran received positive feedback from several attendees expressing how great and valuable their information was to them. Chris Dawe, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs — Health and Well-Being, was invited by F/CM to lead a panel discussion. Dawe facilitated a full-conference panel discussion on The Evolution of Wellbeing in Higher Education and its Connection to the Built and Natural Environment.
During the conference, the UH Football Operations Center construction project was highlighted in a workshop titled, Future Ready: Crafting Sports Facilities for Resilience and Opportunity to demonstrate how the addition to the stadium embodies the essence of 'live, learn, play,' fostering wellness, knowledge, and growth seamlessly within the building.
The UH Football Operations Center serves as a vibrant hub where it embraces its spectators of all ages and backgrounds, offering spaces for learning, reflection, and development, ensuring a holistic experience for all engaged in the excitement of the game.
The F/CM department looks forward to engaging and representing UH at the next TCUF Conference in 2026.
