Traditionally, teachers must pass a Texas teaching certification test before teaching in the classroom. However, Texas is currently deficient in teachers. Therefore, the state of Texas has enabled potential teachers to work on a temporary certification while earning a permanent certification. This means teachers can start working almost immediately and receive a full teacher’s salary plus benefits.

UH is helping those that want to teach through the alternative program to certification – University of Houston Alternative Certification Program (UH ACP). UH ACP is here to guide you, step-by-step through the Texas teaching certification process and create success.

In addition, UH ACP has partnerships with Houston-area school districts. These partnerships provide immediate job opportunities to those in the program.
