The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) is proud to announce Juliann Losey as the winner of the Impact Award. In recognition of their exceptional contributions, Juliann Losey, the assistant director of residential life, was honored with the prestigious 2022-2023 Impact Award from the University of Houston Staff Council. This distinguished award is a testament to Losey's unwavering commitment to improving the student experience within the realm of Student Housing & Residential Life (SHRL).
The Impact Award acknowledges a staff member who has demonstrated a remarkable influence on a significant university event, function, or service. This influence is typically channeled through the development, revision, or implementation of a system, tool, process, initiative, or program either within their own department or across the entire university. This year, Juliann Losey was the embodiment of this award's essence, with their groundbreaking work which garnered them with this esteemed recognition.
Losey earned the Impact Award with their initiative the "Community Improvement Plans." These plans were designed and executed to empower residential student leaders, thereby elevating their ability to advocate for their fellow students' needs and concerns within the framework of SHRL.
This program was conceived with the primary objective of streamlining the student-advocacy-to-reality process, a challenge that had previously hindered the seamless execution of crucial student-focused initiatives. Losey's foresight and dedication culminated in a resounding success. The "Community Improvement Plans" not only streamlined processes but also fostered a sense of community, empowerment, and student development that resonated far beyond the confines of a mere administrative project.
The impact of Losey's efforts extended well beyond the initial scope of their project. Nominations for the Impact Award highlighted the myriad benefits that the "Community Improvement Plans" brought to the student body. These benefits encompassed enhanced student advocacy, improved interaction between residential student leaders and their peers and a more robust foundation for community building within the University of Houston's residential spaces.
On July 19, 2023, Losey's dedication and innovation were publicly celebrated at the Staff Council Awards Ceremony and Scholarship Luncheon. The recognition bestowed upon them was not only a celebration of their personal achievements but a tribute to the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and student-centric thinking that Losey embodies.
In addition to the ceremony, Losey's achievements are on the University of Houston's Staff Council website, where their profile stands as a beacon of inspiration for both current and future staff members. Losey’s story serves as a testament to the possibilities that arise when passion, vision, and dedication converge.
The accolades Losey received reflect their commitment to student development, an innovative mindset, and tireless efforts to enhance the university experience for all. The SHRL staff, along with the entire DSA team, extend their heartfelt congratulations to Losey on this honor. Losey’s work exemplifies the division’s core values and serves as a shining example of the positive impact that a dedicated staff member can have on an institution's growth and evolution.
