Fraternity and sorority membership, at its core, is about community. Our members use their fraternity/sorority experience to find meaningful connections to others while deepening their connection to the University. While this experience happens most effectively when we can be face-to-face, the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life and the UH fraternity/sorority community continue to advance our shared values of leadership, scholarship, service, and brotherhood/sisterhood/siblinghood from a distance.

Since CFSL has moved to online delivery of services, we continue to provide the following services designed to keep our fraternity/sorority experiences moving forward:

Continued Chapter Coaching and Council Advising

Members of the CFSL Team continue to connect with chapter leaders to ensure chapters are still continuing to advance their missions on a virtual campus. Additionally, governing councils are continuing to meet virtually and engage in the self-governance of the fraternity/sorority community.

Zoom Office Hours

A member of the CFSL Team will be available through Zoom Office Hours each Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Members, volunteers, or other stakeholders are free to log-on, ask questions, and share thoughts about what have been effective practices.

Online Delivery of ‘Fraternity/Sorority Leadership (FSL) 101’:

CFSL is moving the delivery of the Student organization Registration Program, ‘FSL 101’, to a completely online format. Chapter leaders and alumni/faculty/staff volunteers can stay connected to the Registered Student Organization Registration website for details.

Beyond CFSL, members of the UH fraternity/sorority community continue to showcase their ingenuity and innovation during these times. “In addition to the hard work that our CFSL Staff Team has been doing to transition their advising and support services to a virtual format, we have been incredibly impressed in the ways that members of our community have continued to keep their fraternity/sorority experiences alive in a virtual format,” said Jason Bergeron, Director of the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life.

Virtual New Member Presentations

Chapters such as Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma, and Sigma Gamma Rho have found ways to formally present their members online.

Showcasing Brotherhood/Sisterhood/Siblinghood

Chi Omega showed us how they keep their sisterhood going from a distance.

Officer Elections

The Multicultural Greek Council hosted their 2020-2021 executive officer elections in an entirely virtual format, leveraging the Microsoft Teams platform to continue to stay engaged with each other as a council.

During this time, we encourage students to stay connected to their fraternity/sorority and to the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life during this time. The impact of the relationships created through fraternity/sorority membership is more important than ever as we are physically distant from each other.

More about the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life: The mission of the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life is to enhance the fraternity/sorority member experience in order to elevate our Greek community. CFSL accomplished its mission through intentional, strategic work in six areas: Center & Community Operations, Advising and Coaching, Educational Programming, Stakeholder Development, Assessment and Planning, and Fraternity/Sorority Housing. Over 1,500 students, 43 chapters, and five governing councils make up one of the most diverse fraternity/sorority communities in the nation.
