HOUSTON, Aug. 28, 2017- From a blossoming arts and culture scene to exciting sporting events, there is no shortage of what Houston has to offer. As part of the annual Weeks of Welcome activities, the University of Houston is teaming up with Houston First and METRO to teach its students more about their city.

The new partnership, MyUH, MyHouston, kicks off with an interactive, multimedia program from 4:30pm – 5:30pm, Thursday, August 31, at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

For the students, the adventure starts at the METRORail station near the Moody Towers residence hall with a free, round-trip ride to downtown Houston. Local officials and celebrities, including State Rep. Armando Walle and Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, a coach with the University’s track program, will also be there.

Students who attend will be eligible for transportation, entertainment and arts discounts, as well as the opportunity to win gift cards and prizes, including a free campus garage parking pass.

“Houston is a great city, and our students are active in volunteer work and other projects across the Third Ward and elsewhere in the metro area. But the city has a lot of other things to offer, and the Metrorail stops at UH make it easy for students to take advantage of that,” said Eve Esch, director of the Student Centers at UH.
