Daniel Maxwell was announced as the Associate Vice Chancellor/Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, effective January 23, 2012. Dan brings more than 23 years of experience in Student Affairs work to the position. Currently, Dan serves as the Director of the Campus Center at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) which is considered Indiana’s premier urban university with over 30,000 students and 20 schools and colleges.

He recently completed an appointment as the Interim Director of Housing and Residential Life at IUPUI. Prior to IUPUI, Dan served as the Director of Student Activities and the Development Officer for the Division of Student Services at Western Illinois University. He has also held positions at the University of Arizona and Syracuse University.

Dan has served as a two-term National President for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and as the Chairperson for the Educational and Research Fund. He is also a member of the Editorial Review Team for ACPA – College Student Educators International Journal of College Student Development. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Personnel and Industrial Relations from the Crouse-Hinds School of Management at Syracuse University and a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Miami. He is currently completing his Doctorate of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs with a minor in Philanthropic Studies from the School of Education at Indiana University.

A common thread throughout Dan’s career and his research focus has been the building of inclusive communities and the relationship between physical space and campus communities as a way to support student success. Building collaborative partnerships with students, faculty, and staff has been a hallmark characteristic of Dan’s work.
