Transportation’s pivotal security challenges take center stage as the inaugural workshop of the Transportation Cybersecurity Center for Advanced Research and Education (CYBER-CARE) commences at the Morrison-Clark Historic Inn & Restaurant in Washington, DC. The event, themed "Cybersecure Transit: Innovation at the Intersection of AI, IoT, and Smart Mobility," promises an in-depth exploration of groundbreaking advancements shaping the future of safeguarding transportation networks.
The day’s proceedings kick off sharply at 9:00 am, led by Dr. Jack Zhang of the University of Houston, presenting a comprehensive outline of the agenda. Attendees are poised for a series of dynamic 15-minute presentations, each followed by a brief Q&A session. These sessions touch upon critical themes:

  • Mahdi Manavi (University of Houston) uncovers Smart Blockchain-Based Access Control for the Internet of Things.
  • Yingfan Gu (University of Cincinnati) introduces an AI-driven system tailored for detecting cyberattacks at interconnected signalized intersections.
  • Arlei Silva (Rice University) explores a Transfer Learning Approach amplifying Graph Neural Networks for Intrusion Detection.
  • Yongxin Liu (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University) addresses Explainable AI's role in detecting Physical-Layer Spoofing.
  • Mehdi Sookhak (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) delves into Managing Real-time Applications in Vehicular Digital Twin Environments using Serverless Edge Computing.

A brief intermission offers attendees the opportunity to network and assimilate the morning’s insights before a compelling panel discussion. Moderated by Dr. Richard Li (University of Cincinnati), the panel boasts luminaries from academia and the transportation sector:

  • Dr. Jianming Ma (Texas Department of Transportation)
  • Dr. Arlei Silva (Rice University)
  • Dr. Kailai Wang (University of Houston)
  • Dr. Yongxin Liu (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University)
  • Dr. Carlos Rubio-Medrano (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
  • Dr. Lu Gao (University of Houston)
  • Dr. Roger Chen (University of Hawaii)

The day culminates in closing remarks by Dr. Jack Zhang, synthesizing the day's discussions and potentially offering a glimpse into the future trajectory of transportation cybersecurity. Those unable to attend in person can engage via live stream on Microsoft Teams, ensuring broader participation.

This workshop promises an enlightening exploration of cutting-edge research and its practical applications, aiming to tackle the evolving challenges where technology intersects with securing modern transit systems.
