CLASS Communication Policies
Media Releases, News Stories and other Communications:
The Office of Communication’s goal is to coordinate a comprehensive effort to inform the public about the goals of UH, CLASS and its entities. Therefore, we not only check for UH Brand standards but we also ensure that the content is accurate and representative of the goals of the college and UH. In addition, we can direct you to other campus resources that can help you achieve your goals or promote the material.
For content written by you or your department: Please submit it to classcom@uh.edu .
Types of content a department/entity creates in house are:
- Newsletters
- Flyers
- Posters
- News releases (printed or web) – Please note: We will rather you work with us when you create a news release.
- Event promotional materials
When writing your communication pieces please use the UH Editorial Style Guide.
- For any speakers make sure to include the correct position titles, appointments, and affiliations .
- For events, your flyer should answer the following questions: what? where? when? who? cost?
- When adding a UH physical location – use the physical address and the UH building name and room number. Please use UH Maps to find the needed information.
- When adding virtual location specify how and when the person will receive the login information.
- Use proper UH department, program, or initiatives name.
When pitching a news release to our office please provide the following information:
- Is the news/media release time sensitive?
- Are donors involved?
- Is a well-known award/prize/recognition in the field or in general being received by a member of the department?
- Is a well-known speaker visiting your department? What will be topic of his talk be? Please provide their work/academic titles; a small bio that focus on their accomplishment on the topic being discuss.
- Are the topics discussed on the presented talks a topic that is currently in the news?
- How the event/news will bring recognition to the department, the college or UH?
Email Communications:
All forms of email communications to be distributed to any institutional or public audience needs to be submitted to classcom@uh.edu for approval. Summit it in the format intended to be distributed (e.g. PDF or html newsletter).
- let us know the date you are planning to send it
- what tool you will be using to distribute the material? (e.g. iModules, SendIT, other Mass email tool)
- who is you audience? (e.g. Psychology alumni, students and faculty or a curated list of emails)
- are you reaching out to the community? Any distinguished community members?
- goal of the materials? (e.g. Event promotion, newsletter distribution)
For any photos and/or graphic material included in the electronic communication please make sure that all of the permissions and approvals have been acquired. Your submission constitues confirmation that you have acquired all required permissions for such material.
