Envisioning Public History

Come join the Center for Public History for a public lecture event with Dr. Evan Faulkenbury and Dr. Julia Brock as they discuss discipline of public history - what it is and why it's important!

Evan Faulkenbury is an assistant professor of history at SUNY Cortland, specializing in U.S. history, public history, and the civil rights movement, specifically examining grassroots African American registration campaigns during the 1960s and 1970s.

Julia Brock is an assistant professor of history at the University of Alabama, specializing in public history and museum work, digital history, oral history, and community partnerships, with a focus on the post-Civil War U.S. South.

Faulkenbury and Brock are currently working on an edited volume of essays about the teaching of public history. Drawing on Patrick Allitt’s model (I'm the Teacher, You're the Student: A Semester in the University Classroom), they plan to offer a series of case studies by instructors about the day-to-day teaching of a semester-long public history course.

Good Design FITs Everyone

Industrial design students at the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design have broken their own record in this year’s international FIT Sport Design Awards. Nine students won a total of twelve awards, up from six students and awards in 2023. The annual competition calls for both professional and student work, shining a spotlight on designs that are innovative, performance-enhancing, sustainable, and accessible.
