Ibrahim Badshah

Ibrahim Badshah is a first year Ph.D candidate from India at the Department of English. He completed his B.A in English Language and Literature from the University of Calicut and M.A. in English from University of Delhi. He also received training in Arabic language and Islamic Studies from KKHM Islamic and Arts College in Kerala. Ibrahim’s research areas include Translation theory, Postcolonial Literature and Theory, Globalization Studies, Cosmopolitanism, and Arab and Islamic Studies. His current research focuses on the translation theory concerning the East; an attempt to arrive at a more inclusive translation theory through the analysis of the translation practices among Asian languages, especially between Arabic and Indian languages. Learning Arabic from an early age, he has translated seven books and several short stories from Arabic as well as from English to his mother tongue Malayalam. This includes novels by Man Booker International winning author Jokha Al-Harthi, Saud Al-Sanousi, Manoranjan Byapari, and short stories by Hayamul Muflih, Towfiq al-Hakeem, Rasha Abbas and Stella Gaitano among others. He is currently working on a project of translating short stories by Arab women.
