This year marks the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 – a tragedy that forever changed the lives of so many Americans. To pay tribute to those who lost their lives and their surviving loved ones, the University of Houston will host a morning ceremony and a photo exhibition. At 9:00 a.m. a ceremony will be held to begin this day of remembrance. This ceremony will be held at the UH World Trade Center Memorial and Reflection Garden next to Student Center South. The World Trade Center Memorial and Reflection Garden is the permanent home of the 3,888-pound piece of twisted steel from one of the World Trade Center towers. UH is the first and only university in Texas to have a piece of “Ground Zero” on display publicly. “Bringing the World Trade Center artifact to UH was very important to me because I could see how important it was to our students. For that generation, it was their Pearl Harbor – a day when the world as we know it changed forever,” said Elwyn Lee, UH vice president for neighborhood and strategic initiatives. “We should never forget.” “Remembering 9/11” photo exhibition will be on display in the hallway next to the Student Center Theater from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. “UH Remembering 9/11” ribbons will be available at the ceremony for students, faculty, staff and visitors to show to display their support throughout their day. Ribbons are free and available while supplies last. Here is a link to photos from the 2023 ceremony: Never Forget. UH Commemorates the Anniversary of 9/11 The Student Center is located at Entrance 1 off of Calhoun Road. Public Parking is available in the Welcome Center garage directly across the street.
