Ceremony Schedule:
- 9:00 am: Posting of Colors by UH Army/Air Force ROTC Cadet Color Guard
- 9:10 am: Welcome by Celina Dugas or a representative from Veteran Services
- 9:14 am: Opening words from Keith Kowalka on behalf of UH student body; Lay a rose by Artifact
- 9:17 am: Words from UH Army ROTC Commander Bradford Todd and UH Air Force ROTC Commander Ernesto Curiel, followed by placing roses at the Artifact
- 9:21 am: Words from UH SGA President Diego E. Arriaga, followed by placing a rose at the Artifact
- 9:23 am: Words from UH Alumni Association Foundation Board President Shazia Khan, followed by placing a rose at the Artifact
- 9:25 am: Words from UH Faculty Senate President Holley Love, followed by placing a rose at the Artifact
- 9:27 am: Words from Staff Council President-elect Karl Hearne, followed by placing a rose at the Artifact
- 9:29 am: Closing words by Dean Donell Young, welcoming everyone to view the photo exhibit
- 9:30’ish am: Ceremony adjourns, followed by TAPS and the Retirement of the Colors
This
year
marks
the
23rd
anniversary
of
9/11
–
a
tragedy
that
forever
changed
the
lives
of
so
many
Americans.
To
pay
tribute
to
those
who
lost
their
lives
and
their
surviving
loved
ones,
the
University
of
Houston
will
host
a
morning
ceremony
and
a
photo
exhibition.
At
9:00
a.m.
a
ceremony
will
be
held
to
begin
this
day
of
remembrance.
This
ceremony
will
be
held
at
the
UH
World
Trade
Center
Memorial
and
Reflection
Garden
next
to
Student
Center
South.
The
World
Trade
Center
Memorial
and
Reflection
Garden
is
the
permanent
home
of
the
3,888-pound
piece
of
twisted
steel
from
one
of
the
World
Trade
Center
towers.
UH
is
the
first
and
only
university
in
Texas
to
have
a
piece
of
“Ground
Zero”
on
display
publicly.
“Bringing
the
World
Trade
Center
artifact
to
UH
was
very
important
to
me
because
I
could
see
how
important
it
was
to
our
students.
For
that
generation,
it
was
their
Pearl
Harbor
–
a
day
when
the
world
as
we
know
it
changed
forever,”
said
Elwyn
Lee,
UH
vice
president
for
neighborhood
and
strategic
initiatives.

photo
exhibition
will
be
on
display
in
the
hallway
next
to
the
Student
Center
Theater
from
7:30
a.m.
to
5
p.m.
“UH
Remembering
9/11”
ribbons
will
be
available
at
the
ceremony
for
students,
faculty,
staff
and
visitors
to
show
to
display
their
support
throughout
their
day.
Ribbons
are
free
and
available
while
supplies
last.
