SUFFERING & SUMUD MENTAL HEALTH IN PALESTINE
Drawing upon liberation psychology, Gwyn Daniel critiques westernized psychological approaches’ tendency to individualize and pathologize social suffering. She locates the trauma experienced by Palestinians within the context of settler colonial violence, injustice and dispossession. Sharing her own experience supporting a trauma team in Gaza, she will describe the work of Palestinian Mental Health professionals which goes beyond the limited categories of either victimhood or resilience and emphasizes solidarity and connectivity.
