UH makes The Daily Meal’s list of the Top Colleges for Food in America

When it comes to providing students quality food service, the University of Houston ranks among the best in the nation.

The Daily Meal’s list of the Top 75 Colleges for Food in America pegs UH at No. 44, with highlights being its number of dining locations, Cougar Woods’ nut-free status, the Meatless Monday initiative, and the “What’s Cooking Coogs” cooking tour.

“There are more than 30 dining locations on University of Houston’s campus, including Cougar Woods, a nut-free facility for students with severe allergies. Basically, whatever you want, you can get at UH,” the Daily Meal wrote about UH.

The Daily Meal chose the final 75 out of 2,000 schools nationwide. It looked at specific efforts each college was making toward improving taste, nutrition and community and decided what was really exceptional.

Numerous factors were considered, including healthy food options and sustainability practices, accessibility and service, the availability of nutrition information and education, food-focused events, and the atmosphere of the food service.

Esmeralda Valdez, executive director of Auxiliary Services at UH, said the recognition is proof of how hard UH is working to provide a top-notch overall dining experience.

“To beat out thousands of other colleges and universities from across the nation shows just how much work and effort Dining Services and Auxiliary Services have put into elevating the level of service that is offered day in and day out to our campus community,” Valdez said.

Only two other colleges in Texas made the list: Trinity University (No. 74) and SMU (No. 63).
